Spring's Arrival in the Archipelago Landscape

Usually in April, the days become noticeably longer and the temperature rises. The ice in the inner bays melts and white-tailed eagles begin to appear with increasing frequency. By May, spring has truly broken through – the deciduous forest-clad islands and the mainland's pastures shift into a vibrant green.

Ängsö – Flowers in World-Class Splendour

Ängsö National Park in the Roslagen archipelago is considered one of the country's finest botanical destinations in spring. From mid-May to mid-June, the orchids Adam and Eva bloom side by side with cowslips, wild garlic and buttercups that paint the meadow slopes yellow. You can reach it on Gula båten's Ängsö line from Furusund.

Bird Life Awakens

Roslagen is a paradise for birdwatchers in spring. In Ängsö's deciduous forests with old hollow trees, great woodpeckers, pied flycatchers, wood pigeons and nutcrackers thrive. The white-tailed eagle, the region's most iconic bird, favours old-growth forests. Along the coast and in the archipelago, seabirds return and fill the bay with life.

First Boat Trips of the Season

During May, archipelago cafés and restaurants open their doors for the season. Waxholmsbolaget's routes to the outer islands start their summer services, and for many Roslagen residents, the first boat trip out in April or May is a cherished tradition.

Frog Concerts and Wetlands

In Roslagen's lakes and wetlands, frog calls are heard as early as April – an unmistakable sign that winter is over. Nature reserves around Norrtälje offer easy access to these spring sounds in the midst of peaceful nature.
