Staycation in Roslagen

Roslagen is just 50–90 minutes from Stockholm and Uppsala – close enough for a spontaneous weekend getaway, remote enough to feel like a real vacation. Here's your guide to the perfect staycation weekend.

Why Roslagen is the perfect staycation destination

Roslagen is one of the Stockholm region's closest natural areas with genuine coastal and archipelago character. From central Stockholm it takes 50–90 minutes by car depending on your destination, and yet you'll find yourself in a completely different pace – islands, cliffs, lush coastal roads and small towns without the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Day 1 – Arrival and coast

  • Morning: Drive to one of the many bathing spots along the Roslagen coast. Take a dip in the Baltic Sea and let the fresh sea air set the tone.
  • Afternoon: Explore one of the smaller coastal towns – Norrtälje town centre has boutique shops, cafés and the Norrtälje River to stroll along.
  • Evening: Book dinner at one of the waterfront inns or an archipelago restaurant. End the day at a hotel or cottage near the water.

Day 2 – Archipelago and nature

  • Morning: A peaceful walk in one of the archipelago's nature reserves or along part of Roslagsleden.
  • Lunch: Take a passenger boat out to an island and have lunch at the guest harbour if it's summer season.
  • Journey home: Stop off in Norrtälje or along the way for ice cream, fika and a last look out towards the sea.

Roslagen is equally suitable for couples seeking peace and quiet as for families with children who want to combine swimming, nature and a taste of archipelago culture – without needing to fly.
