Storängstorpets nature reserve

Nature reserve. In parts, the presence of aspen and birch is substantial, and in some areas there is also a significant amount of old aspen.

Most of the area consists of old and partly slow-growing coniferous mixed forest on predominantly calcareous soil. In parts, the proportion of aspen and birch is large, and in places there is also an abundance of old aspen. Rocky ground with slow-growing, old pine trees is also included in the area. In the far south there is a nature-value classified area consisting of woodland-like deciduous forest, and on the southern side of the road there are also grazed pastures with smaller forest patches. The deciduous forest has very fine nature values with oak, maple, willow, alder, hazel, rowan and a flora including, for example, wood anemone, wood sorrel, hepatica, and butcher's broom, with shrubs such as cloudberry and may-apple. Outside the nature-value area, the deciduous forest is also fine in places, but there are also parts that have been planted with spruce. Two swamp forest areas, which are included in Natura 2000, are found in the area. The eastern one is undrained and consists of slow-growing birch, alder, pine and spruce, with well-developed alder stools in places. There is abundant deadwood and dead trees there. The western one is affected by a ditch running straight through the area, and consists of a fen with surrounding deciduous swamp forest with alder, spruce and birch. Parts of the fen have become overgrown with deciduous scrub due to the ditching. The forests contain a large number of red-listed species. Many are mycorrhizal fungi that are associated with old conifers, but there are also several species associated with deciduous trees, particularly aspen. Among other things, the following interesting species have been found: red-listed tooth fungus (EN), small horned lichen moss (VU), woolly lichen (NT), large aspen lichen (NT), fragrant tooth fungus (NT), bread tooth fungus (VU), spruce lichen (NT), orange tooth fungus (NT), coniferous violet spider mite (NT), aspen jelly lichen (NT), lung lichen (NT), pleated lichen (NT), purple woodear (VU), candelabra fungus (NT), spruce grey lichen (VU), copper tooth fungus (VU), coral lead lichen, cat's foot lichen, blunt feather moss, dark house moss, forest linden, ring lichen and bronze lichen. The forest has been surveyed in the Swedish Forest Agency's key biotope inventories (case references: N 6928-1994, N 6929-1994, N 1033-1994 and N 860-2014), where approximately 36 hectares in the area were classified as key biotopes, that is, areas with high forest nature values. The reserve proposal also includes two objects with nature values totalling approximately 6 hectares.
