Tvärnö Djur, Natur & fiskeguidning

Mellangården is one of three working farms on the island of Tvärnö in northern Roslagen and has beef cattle, sheep, cats, hens and dogs, among others. The business is run by Katarina Johansson and Nicklas Johansson and is based on Tvärnö. Mellangården is located on the eastern part of the island, 21 km southeast of Östhammar, and the island has a permanent bridge connection. You can stay, fish and walk there all year round.

Animals: Since 26 March 2009, the business has been KRAV-certified for both crop cultivation and animal husbandry. Lamb and cattle are slaughtered in autumn. Wool from the farm's own sheep is sold. The sheep are crosses of Gotland sheep and Leicester, and the wool is suitable for felting.

Nature: In the surroundings there is fishing water. Angling and casting for your own use is free, but for trolling and net fishing a fishing permit is required. Here there are pike, zander, perch, herring and trout, among others. Guided fishing trips are offered.

Products: Products from the farm are sold according to availability and season, such as lamb meat, sheep and lambskins, wool, felted crafts, vegetables, potatoes, herbs, fruit, jam and mushrooms, among others.

Fishing trip: You can jig for herring in spring, spin and spinning-reel fish for pike and perch during spring, summer and autumn, and ice fish for pike in winter. No prior knowledge is required, and you get to learn more about casting technique and more. The tours suit both beginners and the experienced. At Mellangården there is a house to hire where a small boat with a motor is included for those who want to explore the archipelago on their own. The starting point is Tvärnö, but a meeting can take place elsewhere by agreement.
