The Uppland Trail

The main route of the Uppland Trail is 500 km long and divided into three sections. In addition there are a number of loops along the trail.

The advantage of walking a loop is that you come back to the starting point where you have parked the car or got off the bus. Below are examples of a couple of loops; for complete information and information about the different stages see: https://naturkartan.se/sv/upplandsleden

Dammleden
Length: 12.5 km Rest areas: Two wind shelters and two rest areas.
Parking: Hammaren at Gimo inn at the western end of Bruksgatan or by the bathing spot.
Bus: 811, stop Bruksgatan The starting point "Hammaren" lies by the dam that formerly regulated the water power for the iron handling.

Here the foundation for Gimo ironworks was laid in 1616, and in 1795 the hammer forge whose remains you now see was erected. Operations ceased in 1917. This very easy-to-walk stretch takes between 4 and 5 hours depending on how long your breaks are and how curious you are. The path runs quite a lot on forest roads, generally without traffic, but also on paths in forest and along shores. In several places along the lake you can pause and enjoy the view and bird life. The rest areas are at a suitable distance for a fika or grilling sausages. If you choose to walk a summer hike clockwise, you can finish with a dip at the fine bathing spot near the car park.

Österbybruk
Length: 6 km
Rest area: -
Parking: Car park in the centre.
Bus: Regional bus to Österbybruk

This loop offers both ironworks history, services and nature. Here there is, among other things, the world's only preserved Walloon forge. The trail goes through the town and on a short, easy-to-walk forest stretch, and then finishes along the shore of Stordammen. The walk takes a little over two hours.

Risinge
Length: 15.5 km
Rest areas: -
Parking: Car park in Gimo

In Gimo the Uppland Trail runs partly along road 288. Follow the trail over Olandsån. There you can choose the route towards Fäboda, where the trail turns back. This loop runs mainly through forests where you come into contact with modern forestry, i.e. clear-cuts, young forests and forest roads. You also pass several old house foundations where the crofter families once lived and worked. The stretch is easy to walk as long sections run along minor roads. Reckon on a hike of between five and six hours.
