Northern Boat Line – gateway to outer Roslagen

During summer, the Northern Boat Line, operated by Blidösundsbolaget, departs from Norrtälje harbour towards the outer islands. The line is serviced by M/S Rex and stops at several islands with widely varying character. Waxholmsbolaget's line 40 (North/South Line) provides complementary service with connections to, among others, Blidö.

Islands along the line

• Gräddö – The first major stop, also accessible by car via bridge. Coastal environment with bathing and nature reserves.
• Lidö – A well-known island with Lidö Värdshus, nature reserve and bathing coves. Car-free island in summer.
• Arholma – The Northern Boat Line's final stop and one of the archipelago's most beloved destinations. Red archipelago cottages, a cooperative general store, a café and a church. Walking paths wind through unspoiled natural surroundings.
• Singö – Accessible via bridge but with archipelago character and culturally historic villages of national interest, including Backby and Tranvik. Singö Church, dating from 1753, is one of the few preserved older archipelago churches in Roslagen.
• Blidö – Part of the North/South Line's stops and one of the archipelago's finest excursion destinations with nature reserve and bathing.
• Fejan – Small island in the outer archipelago east of Kapellskär. Features a historic quarantine station from the cholera epidemic of the 1800s, guest harbour and smokery.

Practical information

The Northern Boat Line operates this route during the summer season (normally July–early August). Check current timetables with Blidösundsbolaget and Waxholmsbolaget before your journey. Many islands are car-free – plan to walk, cycle or paddle once you arrive.
