Väddö Church

The new church that was built on the site became one of Roslagen's largest. The church was built in a north-south direction, so that one got a magnificent west gable with a central tower facing the country road and the canal. After a storm with a lightning strike, the church burned down in 1872, but was rebuilt with a higher wood-panelled barrel vault inside the church. The altar painting The Ascension of Christ was painted by Jerk Werkmäster in 1926. From the old church four medieval sculptures have been preserved. Most remarkable is the triumphal crucifix, which is placed above the door to the sacristy. The wooden pyramids were made in the 1700s. In one of the east windows there is a votive ship that is a model of the brig "Jupiter". The church has seating for about 350 people.
