The Walloon forge in Österbybruk

Österbybruk — a cultural centre in a beautiful ironworks setting with a fascinating history! The nearby Dannemora mine created the conditions for an unbroken tradition of ironworking in Österbybruk spanning more than 500 years. During the summers, guided tours of the Walloon forge and one of the old smiths' dwellings at the ironworks are held.

Then the story is told of how it all began and how the smiths from Wallonia came to develop the art of forging so that iron and steel from Österbybruk became sought-after across large parts of the world. During the tours, the only preserved and functioning Walloon forge is visited, where the forging technique and working conditions are described.
