30 miles through Roslagen
Roslagsleden stretches almost 190 kilometers from Danderyd Church in the south to the Albert Engström Museum in Grisslehamn in the north — a hiking journey through archipelago, forest and living countryside along the entire coast of Roslagen.
A journey along the coast
Roslagsleden is one of the longest continuous hiking trails in the Stockholm region. It is divided into 11 stages of 9 to 25 kilometres, marked with bright yellow blazes and equipped with information signs at the start and end of each stage. The trail is part of the European hiking route network European Walking Route 6, which stretches from Kilpisjärvi in northern Finland all the way to Greece.
South: Danderyd and Österåker
The trail begins at Danderyds Church and passes through Österåker municipality with its canal system and inner archipelago. Domaruddens outdoor farm in Österåker is one of the natural rest points in the southern section and offers services for hikers.
Middle: Norrtälje
The trail continues northward through Norrtälje municipality — the region's natural centre — and passes Vigelsjö farm in a landscape that alternates between forest areas, lakes and agricultural countryside. Stage 8 is highlighted as one of the quieter and more swimming-focused sections.
North: Östhammar and Grisslehamn
In the north, hikers encounter Östhammar's coastal landscape with fishing villages and well-preserved environments. The trail ends in Grisslehamn, known for the artist Albert Engström and the museum that bears his name. The border with Norrland is near — and the feeling of having hiked through all of Roslagen from south to north is palpable.
Plan your journey along the trail
It is possible to hike individual stages with public transport or car as a supplement, which makes the trail accessible even for those who do not want to do a continuous multi-day hike. Along the trail, Roslagen's countryside offers farm shops, local restaurants and a vibrant coastal culture to explore along the way.
