Visit Forsmark

Forsmark Manor: It was the then ironworks owner John Jennings who had the two manor houses in Forsmark built. Jennings had reached a high position in society. He began a great change for Forsmark ironworks, starting with his own residence. The old manor was completed in 1765. Jennings made contact with Jean-Eric Rehn, who was commissioned to design a new manor and make a master plan for the entire ironworks. In 1774 the new manor was completed, something John Jennings never got to experience, since he died in 1773, only 44 years old. In 1781 Samuel af Ugglas and his family moved into the new manor. Samuel af Ugglas resumed and completed the work on Jennings' master plan for the ironworks. Today both manors are used as conference facilities for Vattenfall and Forsmarks Kraftgrupp.

Forsmark Experiment Workshop: The experiment workshop has grown every year with new experiments and activities for children. Here, both young and old can learn more about energy through various experiments and experiment shows. Under the guidance of students from the Vattenfall upper-secondary school, children get to play and learn through experiments of various kinds. The younger visitors can try out electric scooters, an electric bike and electric cars. All activities are free.

The English Park: An English park is not immediately obvious but is discovered by entering it, with walks through hills and valleys, over winding streams and bridges. Forsmark's park is quite small compared to other traditional English parks, but still contains these basic elements. Water is the most important element in an English park. Samuel af Ugglas laid out the English Park during the 1780s. In 2009 the park came joint fourth in the competition Sweden's most beautiful park. The park has also been used as a filming location for the film adaptation of Selma Lagerlöf's "Gösta Berling's Saga" in the 1920s, in which Greta Garbo, among others, took part. Ironworks Museum: Forsmark's ironworks museum, formerly the ironworks warehouse, has three floors of ironworks objects and historical exhibitions. Here there is, among other things, the so-called withdrawal point, where the ironworks residents collected part of their pay in the form of foodstuffs. The museum is staffed according to the ironworks' opening hours, and visitors can choose between going on their own or joining a museum tour. The Mill: Forsmark's mill was in use from the early 1800s until 1976. Today the gates are open again and the mill's authentic setting is preserved to visit.
